Classic Picture Books for Children
and Former Children
Don't just sit there - READ SOMETHING!

Listed here are some all-time great storytime (and bedtime) books that EVERY child deserves to encounter at an early age

This is a list of some of my favorite classic children's books. Many of the most wonderful and amazingly beautiful illustrated books for children ever published are hard to find or unavailable these days. As a former school librarian this saddens me. That's why I've put together this list. Many are still in print, but not often found in local book stores. Others are simply out of print and have vanished.

The good news is that if you're lucky enough to be near a good public library, you may still find them there. Of course, today's librarians like to "deaccession" many of these classics, in favor of more "relevant" and topical books with "lessons" to shove down our children's throats. But never mind. The books below are very different. They may be hard to find, but if you take the trouble, and can dig them up, perhaps in a used book store, it will be well worth your trouble!

I am happy to say that some are readily available, and for those that are I have included a link to Amazon.com for your convenience. You might also try half.com - I have had great luck finding used and out-of-print books there.
